IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Please review our Student Group Visit Reminders and the Introduction to GFS Slideshow on your own and with your students before your visit.
Build Your Own Bee Hotel
Artists will create their own small bug hotel using recycled materials like cardboard shoe boxes and paper towel tubes packed with bamboo rods, moss, and more. Bug hotels are great projects to study backyard ecosystems by providing a home for pollinators like solitary bees.
Miniature Sculpture Garden
In this workshop, students will consider environment, placement, design, and texture to create their own sculpture garden diorama. Students will go on a guided tour of the grounds to gain inspiration for building their personal garden out of cardboard, clay, wire, and more.
3D Painting with DIY Modeling Paste
Artists will paint on canvas boards using acrylic paint, palette knives, and easy DIY modeling paste to create 3D paintings of their own design. The sculptural effect of the paint provides a raised textured sensory experience when dry.
Bubble Wrap Print
Use bubble wrap to create an original work of art! Artists will use brayers to paint bubble wrap color by color, flip it over, and then smooth the impression on the paper to create rainbow stampings. For an additional lesson, pre-mix 3 colors that act as a triad, so that the resulting piece has color harmony.
PK–12 groups are permitted to carry unopened bagged lunches with them on the grounds to enjoy at designated eating areas. Student group eating areas are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. In the case of inclement weather, please note that we cannot guarantee an available eating area inside. In such cases, groups may be asked to eat lunch on the bus.
Groups can also order bagged lunches to be picked up on-site. Orders must be received five business days prior to the date of your visit. A credit card number is required to guarantee your order. For information about bagged lunches and a sample menu, please contact via email at cafe@groundsforsculpture.org.
