2 Sessions: Saturday, December 10 & 17
This 2-session workshop offers an introduction to hand building with clay to create sculptural vessels and or containers. Learn how to build with the instructor, step-by-step, creating a large vessel with the coil and pinch technique. Aesthetic choices can reference anything from boxes, baskets, chests, drawers, to reliquaries, urns, butsudans, and more. Think about form and function by examining ways to translate ideas of a container into something more. All levels of experience welcome.
Instructor: Akiko Jackson is from Kahuku, a rural north shore community on the island of O’ahu, Hawai’i. She holds an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, School of the Arts and is a current Artist in Residence at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia. Jackson has been the recipient of fellowships and residencies throughout the country for the last 13 years and looks forward to creating a homebase in the greater Philadelphia and surrounding communities.
