Grounds For Sculpture partners with Third Way Cultural Alliance to present Creative Freedom: A Salon Experience featuring Marshall Allen, Salvador Jiménez-Flores, and Jamaaladeen Tacuma.

Artists have a unique ability to take our everyday life and transform it into an audio or visual language, helping audiences grow empathy, release frustration, express joy, and expand their knowledge. The evening features a live performance of new music from the legendary Marshall Allen of the Sun Ra Arkestra and renowned avant-garde bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma. Allen and Tacuma will debut new music from Allen’s unreleased album, 101: An Audio Odyssey, within Salvador Jiménez-Flores’s exhibition Raíces & Resistencias. The evening will ebb and flow between live performances and intimate conversation with the musicians and artist Salvador Jiménez-Flores, discussing the importance of creative freedom, moderated by Nicole Sweeney of WRTI Radio.

The full ensemble includes Marshall Allen on sax and electric wind instruments, Jamaaladeen Tacuma on bass, Yesseh Ali on sax, Braxton Bateman on trumpet, electronics and voice box, King Noli on drums, Keyanna Hutchinson on guitar, DM Hotep on guitar, Yoichi Uzeki on keys, and Laurin Talese on vocals.

Exclusive first copies of the unreleased album 101: An Audio Odyssey are available for purchase with your ticket and will be on sale at the event. Please note: Copies of the album are limited, and pre-orders are encouraged.

No cameras or recordings are allowed. Guests are welcome to explore the gardens before the program, as admission to Grounds For Sculpture is included with your ticket.

Van Gogh Café will have a cash bar with light bites. The café closes at 9:30PM.
