Karen Petersen grew up in the small town of Escanba, Michigan, located far above Mackinaw Island, where much of the solitude and strength that infuses her work had its origins. She earned a B.S. from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and attended Parsons School of Design, New York City where she studied under sculptor Chaim Gross. In addition, she studied sculpture at Central Connecticut College and the University of Rhode Island. Her teaching experience includes over twenty years at the Hartford College for Women, CT. Recent past solo shows were held at STEUBEN, New York City and the Sailor’s Valentine Gallery, Nantucket, MA.
