What lies beneath the visible? What truths, tensions, or stories are hidden just out of view?

Beneath the Surface invites members to explore what is concealed, layered, or overlooked—whether in the natural world, in human experience, or in the materials themselves. This exhibition challenges artists to consider what exists beyond appearances, encouraging work that reveals inner structures, emotional depth, or buried meaning.

In this 16th annual showing of Grounds For Sculpture’s members’ talents, members are celebrated for their most authentic musings through their display of what lies beneath. Artists may have responded literally by embedding forms, carving into layers, or using subterranean imagery, or metaphorically by exposing underlying personal, cultural, or environmental narratives. This exhibition showcases the diversity of our membership through their varied artistic creations and unique inspirations.

The Education Gallery at Grounds For Sculpture is supported, in part, by Stark & Stark, Inc.
