Learn to make a life-sized portrait using clay on a wire armature. Basic hand building, armature design, tool use, and human anatomy explored. Once complete, you’ll make a plaster cast of your portrait through the waste-mold process.
Instructor: After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Sculpture from San Diego State University, Fred Morante was invited to attend the Seward Johnson Institute of Sculpture by his previous professor and then Director of the Johnson Atelier, Herk Van Tongren. He then received a fellowship at the Wyoming Foundry studio in Camaiore, Italy to intern with the artist Harry Jackson. Upon returning to the Johnson Atelier to be an instructor in sand molding and furnace building. He eventually became supervisor of the sand foundry. He now in the head modeler at the Digital Atelier. His figurative sculpture uses traditional materials and methods as well as the more technical use of the computer.
