New Jersey Symphony and Grounds For Sculpture are excited to partner during Women’s History Month to present an engaging afternoon celebrating the work of female creatives.

2:00PM:  “Ladies First” by New Jersey Symphony Chamber Players

Discover the extraordinary contributions of women composers across five centuries in this engaging 45-minute chamber concert. Featuring music by Fanny Mendelssohn, Clara Schumann, Florence Price, and others, the program brings remarkable voices from the past and present into the spotlight. Throughout the performance, New Jersey Symphony musicians share the stories behind the music, offering fresh insights into the composers’ lives and the evolving role of women in the musical world.

The performance takes place among GFS’s current exhibition Shantell Martin: Past, Present, Future, located in the West Gallery of the Seward Johnson Center for the Arts at GFS. For this exhibition, Martin designed an immersive site-specific installation featuring murals and an engagement space, as well as a new outdoor sculpture, BENN, commissioned for the exhibition. The exhibition encourages reflection on how the past shapes our present, how the present informs our future, and ultimately, how we navigate the continuous and often elusive currents of time that define our existence.

3:00PM:  “Female Sculptors” Guided Tour

Bundle up and embark on a docent-led tour about the female sculptors showcased at GFS. This 45–60-minute tour leaves from the West Gallery and takes place outdoors among Grounds For Sculpture’s 42 acres of art-filled gardens.

This special event is open to current and new GFS members. Register now online or call (609) 586-0616. Limited space! Members-Only price $50 includes performance and guided tour.
