Celebrate the Lunar New Year with the powerful rhythms of Taiko drumming with Philadelphia-based ensemble Casual Fifth. Casual Fifth is a dance and taiko ensemble based in Philadelphia, creating innovative work rooted in the fundamentals and history of Japanese ensemble drumming and modern dance.
All are welcome to participate and enjoy the celebration! Wear clothing that are comfortable to move around in. Jewelry such as rings, dangling necklaces and earrings are discouraged (for safety’s sake). Drums and bachi (drumsticks) will be provided, and no previous experience is required.
About: Casual Fifth is the part-time performance company of Alex Pfister and Mac Evans. Alex and Mac started practicing modern dance and taiko drumming in college, have continued studying and performing in New York City, and now reside in Philadelphia. Casual Fifth is the joint venture of Alex and Mac and the friends, mentors, and mentees they’ve made along the way.
