Contribute to a community quilt to be displayed in the Shantell Martin: Past, Present, Future exhibition, in the West Gallery.
The Sankofa Community Quilt Wall, located within the exhibition, invites us to reflect on the power of words and our imagination to shape the world we live in and the communities we create.
This collaboration with Shantell Martin and the Princeton Sankofa Stitchers Modern Quilting Guild will result in three quilts produced by local organizations and a fourth quilt created by the Grounds For Sculpture community.
Led by the Guild, this quilting workshop will give the Grounds For Sculpture community the opportunity to participate in Shantell Martin’s creative practice, support local community organizations, and contribute to the creation of a one-of-a-kind quilt that will be auctioned in the future to benefit Grounds For Sculpture. Participants will view the exhibition, then design and sew a square guided by quilters from the guild. The square will become a part of one of the four quilts based on style and theme and displayed at a grand unveiling in the afternoon on Saturday, April 17, 2027, through the remainder of the exhibition run. All participants will be invited to the grand unveiling.
No prior experience is required; all are welcome, and supplies will be provided.
