Spiral Q + Artworks Trenton | Community Arts Residency

In partnership with GFS, Spiral Q visits Artworks Trenton this summer for a series of artmaking workshops from July 5 to July 27. Spiral Q will host open builds to create art—such as puppets, banners, and protest signs—inspired by what you care about.  Everyone is welcome to attend one or more of the open builds. For more information on participating, visit Artworks Trenton.

In the spirit of the civil rights marches of the ‘60s and ’70s, creations will be brought to life through participation in a mile-long public procession, Breaking Boundaries: Grounds For Gathering, from Farmingdale Park to GFS on Saturday, July 29 at 11AM.  This event is family-friendly and will include free access to GFS for procession participants on the day of the procession.

Spiral Q’s art education residencies use a sequential project-based engagement methodology to unleash the power of art to connect people, actions, values, neighborhoods, organizations, and movements to each other and to their collective creative force for change. Teaching artists will lead participants through a collaborative artmaking process that uses storytelling to translate life experiences into large scale artwork that will be carried in the community procession to GFS.

This program is in tandem with the exhibition Spiral Q: The Parade.

Spiral Q: The Parade Processional is supported by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
