Performance | Verses of Perception

Join us for an inspiring evening of spoken word in celebration of the Roberto Lugo: The Village Potter exhibition with local performance artists Nikki Nalbone, Takara Alexander, and Leah James.

Nikki Nalbone is a musician, performer, songwriter, and lyricist from New Jersey. Her musical projects include bands The Amorphous Blob Orchestra, Nikki Nailbomb, Molly Rhythm, and Party Show. Their style is plosive and visceral. Nikki’s words are uncompromising and compelling, coming together in a rhythmically strange fashion.

Takara Alexander, a 31-year-old written and spoken word artist and lyricist, graduated from The School of the Arts in Rochester, New York with a special arts degree in creative writing. Her love of community was born and nurtured by the love of Trenton where she has lived for nine years. Her style of work is reflective of the urban underground performative spoken word style of the late nineties, made for the stage and inspired by being Black in America.

Leah James, a spoken word artist based out of Trenton, New Jersey, has been performing for over ten years and has performed across the country, including the world’s largest poetry showcase. She plans on releasing her first solo book of poetry this year. Her style is eclectic and inspirational and brings a message of hope and healing. She delivers her words with unyielding passion and purpose.
