Dear Friends,

First and foremost, we hope you and your family are safe and healthy. These are challenging times for all of us, with so much uncertainty every day.

GFS Temporary Closing
The museum, park and office at GFS are all currently closed. Current predictions indicate we may need to be closed for 3-5 months due to the coronavirus pandemic. Right now, we legally cannot open, and even when we are permitted, we will need to assess if it is safe for our staff, members and visitors to do so. The American Alliance of Museums is projecting 30% of museums will not be able to survive this crisis and will be forced to close permanently. Our priority is ensuring GFS can survive this crisis.

GFS relies heavily on earned income from ticketed admission and programs (66% of our annual budget). Much of it comes in the Spring Season. This closure has ceased virtually all incoming revenue. We are announcing today that GFS will close temporarily for an undetermined period. This is all the more heartbreaking given the recent passing of GFS founder Seward Johnson and all the work we have collectively done to support and continue his vision.

GFS Programming Cancellation Through June 30
All programming including workshops, events, rentals and tours are cancelled. We will work to reschedule when possible.

GFS Will Operate With Limited Staff
We appreciate your patience as we work through this difficult period.

Rats Restaurant
Schedule and programming at Rats Restaurant may vary slightly from that of GFS. Please see Rat’s hours at ratsrestaurant.com.

In the interim, we invite you to explore our collection of 400+ works on our website groundsforsculpture.org and our interactive map gfsmap.org, which features sculpture and horticulture throughout the grounds—a chance to discover something new and maybe learn even more about a longtime favorite.

Any organizational updates will be announced via this page, email, and social media.

All our best,
Grounds For Sculpture
