Stephen Knapp, who has a home and studio in Massachusetts, combines innovative industrial techniques with abstract, fine-art sensibilities. For over fifteen years Knapp has conducted extensive research on durable materials for public art facilities throughout the United States and Japan. Since 1990, Knapp has worked extensively at factories and with technicians to develop kiln-formed glass on an architectural scale. Through research, development, and refinement of this project, he has received commissions to create walls and doors for international corporations, public sites, and private spaces in collaboration with artists and designers. Clients include Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, United Airlines, and many other notable companies. Drawing upon his design and sculpture experience, Knapp has also created a series of unique pieces of furniture and glass and steel. He is the author of a publication that illustrates the integration of glass and architecture, The Art of Glass published by Rockport Publishers, 1998.
