In her most recent works, Niki Ketchman has taken her hair-like forms one step further and has begun to use synthetic hair as her primary medium in conjunction with wire and other materials. Ketchman relates the use of hair as a medium to using ones own body (or part of it) to make art. In similar vein, she has found inspiration in the artifice of hairstyles in terms of shape and form in particular.
Niki Ketchman received a BFA from Fairleigh Dickinson Universty and an MFA from Montclair State College. Over the past three decades, Ketchman has participated in over numerous solo and group shows the world over at notable galleries and museums, such as Gallery New World, Düsseldorf, Germany; Humphrey, Pindar Gallery, and the Kouros Gallery all of which are in New York City, NY. Her work is included in private, corporate, and museum collections throughout the United States including: DeCordova Museum, Lincoln, MA; The National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C.; Pepsico, Purchase, NY; General Electric Corporate Headquarters, Fairfield, CT & Washington, D.C. In 2004, the Katonah Museum presented a one-person exhibition of her outdoor sculpture and drawings. She resides in New York City.
