Lionel Smit focuses on creating portraits in a variety of mediums: paintings, sculpture, prints, video and public installations. Smit’s work has been exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions in Finland, London, and Cape Town as well as various public sitings of his works in the United States. Based in Strand, Cape Town, he describes his process as adaptive, inventive, and physically engaging. In 2013 he received the Viewer’s Choice Award as part of the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
