Storytelling in the Gallery
Explore literary connections to the current exhibition Masayuki Koorida: Sculpture with friends and family. Experience Japanese folklore come alive through kamishibai (paper theater) and engage with Masayuki Koorida’s work on view. Recommended for ages 6-10 and their adult companions. Space is limited; pre-registration encouraged. Children must be accompanied by an adult companion.
About the Storyteller:
Tara McGowan is a professional storyteller, teacher, and visual artist who incorporates story, song, and art through kamishibai (Japanese paper theater). Tara speaks Japanese fluently and has worked with artists and storytellers in Japan for almost two decades. She conducts kamishibai storytelling workshops at schools, libraries, and museums and has published several books and articles on the artform. Tara earned her PhD in literacy at the University of Pennsylvania and currently works as a consultant at the Cotsen Children's Library at Princeton University. She is also executive director of the nonprofit organization NCC Japan.
