Introduction to Wood Working

Develop wood-working skills in this five-session workshop designed to strengthen techniques and self-expression. Taking inspiration from the Interference Fringe | TALLUR L.N. exhibition, participants will learn to transform raw wood into expressive sculptures. Deconstruction, material usage, and qualitative carving will be explored throughout.

No prior experience necessary. All required tools and materials will be provided.

This five-session workshop takes place Saturdays: October 12, 19, 26, November 2, 9 at GFS, in our Education Studios.

Instructor: Mike Gyampo
Mike Gyampo was born in Aburi, Ghana in 1950, into a family of educators and artists. A third-generation artist, he obtained a BA with honors in Sculpture from College of Art, University of Science & Technology in Kumasi, Ghana. He also has an MA (part 1) in African Visual Arts, Musicology and Traditional African Religion from the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana. He worked at the Arts Council of Ghana, The National Museum in Accra, and as a set designer for Ghana Television. His work can be found in both private and public settings in the US and overseas.
