Artisan Trunkshow: Kathleen Lang 1

Artist Kathleen Lang of Organic Imprints home of The Wearable Garden designs and hand-dyes striking textiles using completely natural, plant-based pigments. This season, she designed a collection of eco-printed scarves especially for Grounds For Sculpture, rich in earthly tones, with texture inspired by mother nature. Stop by to see how these one-of-a-kind pieces come to life and learn more about the eco-dyeing process from the artist.

Kathleen Lang Metaxas initiated her formal training as an artist after raising a family and a long career in real estate sales and mortgage financing. Her interest in printmaking, papermaking, and book arts began with the pursuit of a Fine Arts Degree at Bucks County Community College. She continued study at Bennington College and in various workshops with distinguished artists. She is drawn to the “hands-on” direct techniques involved in making prints, paper, books and eco-printing on fabric and paper because they produce results not possible through most other art forms. She founded The Wearable Garden about 4 years ago so she could further develop the sustainable Eco-Printing process in textiles.

Kathleen has been teaching workshops and leading corporate team building for over 10 years. She has held sessions at Grounds for Sculpture, Arts Council of Princeton, Printmaking Center of NJ, Hunterdon Art Museum, Artists of Yardley Art Center and in her own Organic Imprints Studio. Kathleen’s work has been widely collected. Two of her original prints can be seen on the set of the TV show “Madame Secretary”. She has shown her work in prestigious exhibits and has won awards for her work.
