Engaging Students with Special Needs in Your Art Class

Are you an art educator who teaches students with special needs? Join GFS and the Art Educators of New Jersey for a special seminar just for art educators! Meet fellow educators, learn about best practices in arts education for special needs populations, and have your challenges addressed by experts in the field.  In two breakout sessions, learn new strategies and gain inspiration for reaching students with special needs in your art class. 


10-10:30: Check in / breakfast provided by Grounds For Sculpture

10:30-11:30: Round table discussion featuring a panel of art educators working with a wide variety of students with special needs

11:30-11:45: Break

11:45-12:15: Hands on workshop - Modifying Art Tools and Supplies

12:30-1 PM: Hands on workshop - Talking about Art with Students with Special Needs

1:30 - on (Optional) walk-in tour or self-guided time in the sculpture park

Sherry Hurwitz, Recreational Therapist at Princeton House Behavioral Health

Jennifer Santamaria, Art Educator in Tinton Falls School District and Visiting Art Teacher at Ocean's Harbor House

Megan DiFranco, Visual Arts Manager at the ARC Mercer

Jim Pruznick, Independent Art Facilitator at the Center for Contemporary Art

 Each Attendee will receive a 3 hour Professional Development certificate.
