Blacks in Wax: A performance by Foundation Academy students

In honor of Black History Month, Foundation Academy's Blacks in Wax performance will take place at Grounds For Sculpture on Saturday, February 24th from 11:30am to 1pm.

Sculpture comes to life as students from Trenton’s own Foundation Academy Charter School take on some of the most famous African American personalities of the past and present. As part of the school's Black History Month curriculum, students research influential African-American leaders of the past and present. The students then write their own monologues and bring their characters to life through short performances. Audience members walk up to the characters, press “Play” and learn about the lives, challenges, and tribulations of influencers like Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Bessie Coleman, Barack and Michelle Obama, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and more. Education has never been so unique, engaging, and intimate.

This program will mark the third year of partnership between GFS and Foundation Academies. Founded in 2007, Foundation Academies is a top-performing charter organization based in Trenton, NJ and is a free alternative to public schools.
