Spring / Summer Season 2010
In the Museum, the pop-art sculpture of Keith Haring. His boldly colored, strongly linear works take on the difficult themes of religion, drugs, life and death, sexuality, and unity with imagery ranging from darkly disturbing to joyously triumphant. Though he experimented with many different mediums, his sculptures echo the style and themes from his bold 2-dimensional works. Also, on view in the Domestic Arts Building, the environmental sculpture of Chakaia Booker, who’s primary medium of recycled tires begs the comparison of the pattern in a relief sculpture’s tire tread to the patterns of ancient writing, likening the viewer’s experience of examining her work to a process of archeological discovery. Reception: Sat., May 1, 2 - 5pm. The park is closed to the public all day. Members and invited guests only. Exhibition: May 2 through September 19.
