Adult Workshop Stone Carving

Event Fully Booked

A five-session workshop where participants are instructed in creating their own stone sculptures under the supervision of a master stone carver.  Stone properties, stone selection, tool use, and hand finishing techniques are taught.  This workshop is organized in partnership with the Digital Stone Project, www.digitalstoneproject.org. Time: 10am–1pm. Non-Members $250, Members $235; specialized tools and materials will be made available.  Students should bring leather gloves, eye protection, and a smock. Tots on Tour!
Who says Museums aren’t for the very young?  Listen to a story, become park explorers, and make original works of art.  Bring your 3 to 5 year old and have them learn about sculpture through interactive activities.  Beginning in March, the program takes place every third Saturday of the month.  11am – 12 noon.  Free with park admission.  Rain or shine.  One adult must accompany each child.  No reservations are necessary, but space is limited on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Register and meet in the Domestic Arts Building on the day of the program.

Young Artist Workshops

Workshops for 6 to 9 year olds:Toys: Set your video games aside and learn how to build old-fashioned toys from scratch.  Time: 11am–12:15pm Instructor: Margareta Warlick Paper Mâché Bugs: Create your favorite bug, be it a beetle or slug, out of paper mâché.  Time: 12:45pm–2pm Instructor: April Zay William King-inspired Sculpture: Just like sculptor William King, construct your own three-dimensional figurative sculpture using wire, aluminum foil, and other metals. Time: 2:30pm–3:45pm Instructor: Eric Eisenhart

Workshops for 10 to 14 year olds: Groovy Gothic Gargoyles: Carve your own groovy gothic gargoyle out of Styrofoam.  Using a cement-based compound and paint, bring your wild creation to life. Time: 11am – 12:15pm Instructor: Ruthann Perry Colored Wire Sculpture: Lines turn three-dimensional as you create a unique sculptural form using colored telephone wire. Time: 12:45pm–2pm Instructor: Aylin Green Felt-Making: Create a three-dimensional woven landscape relief using different felting techniques. Time: 2:30pm – 3:45pm Instructor: Margareta Warlick
