India Blake is an artist with many talents. She first became known in the arts world with an acting career, working in both Off Broadway and overseas productions. She attended Sarah Lawrence College and studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse School in New York City. Currently, India Blake divides most of her time between Manhattan and Nantucket, MA. Blake travels the world extensively and documents her travels through the art of photography. This entrance into the visual art world was a natural progression from her far-reaching travel and artistic background. Blake’s work as a photographer focuses on nature, animals and landscapes. She describes herself as “a self-taught photographer.” According to Blake, “photography for me has always been a way of narrating a story, suggesting what might have occurred before the specific moment or perhaps what might happen next.” Most recently, Blake has continued her visual arts career by creating sculpture. A new addition outdoors for Spring/Summer 2011 is Mood Stone, India Blake's first large scale piece of sculpture. This work represents her affinity for nature's organic and fluid rhythms and earthy hues. The sculptor notes, "I love the feel of the raw clay in my hands. The process—as well as this piece in particular—bring to mind how malleable our lives are. That, like the fluid clay, we have an opportunity to mold and shape our lives from where we currently stand, into the next stages."
