Student Group Visits

Grounds For Sculpture welcomes all age students to discover, learn, and connect through art and nature in our immersive landscape.

Pre-K – 12 Student Groups

Pre-K – 12 school groups with advance reservations can visit GFS for a modest fee of $5 per student. 

School groups are limited to 50 students per school per day. Due to the large number of requests we receive, scheduling a visit at least 6 weeks in advance is highly recommended. All requests are subject to availability. A non-refundable $50 deposit is due to confirm your visit. This amount will be deducted from the total amount due when full payment is collected.

Full Payment will be collected upon arrival at Grounds For Sculpture or can be prepaid in advance. We accept cash, credit (American Express, MasterCard, Visa, and Discovery), checks, or Purchase Orders (please make checks and POs payable to Grounds For Sculpture). 

All Pre-K – 12 students must be accompanied by adults at all times. Grades Pre-K - 5 must be accompanied by 1 chaperone for every 5 students. Grades 6-12 must be accompanied by 1 chaperone for at least every 10 students. Additional adults will be required to pay regular admission, unless due to the particular needs of your group additional chaperones are required

Membership and Anytime passes cannot be used in conjunction with student group visits. 

Guided Tours
There are different ways for your group to experience Grounds For Sculpture. Teachers may choose to self-guide with their students or to explore the grounds through a 1 hour Guided Tour. Guided Tours are available with advance notice for 3rd – 12th grade school, camp, and youth groups numbering 50 students or less. Trained guides cover a select number of sculptures throughout the garden and may briefly introduce the works in GFS’ indoor galleries. Guided Tours are available Tuesday-Friday at no additional cost to visiting school groups and are subject to availability.

Cancelling and rescheduling 
Please contact the Group Visit Coordinator as soon as possible if you need to reschedule your visit, and we will try to accommodate any changes. The $50 deposit required to confirm your visit is non-refundable for cancellations.

Lunch
Pre-K - 12 groups are permitted to carry unopened bagged lunches with them on the grounds to enjoy at designated eating areas. Student group eating areas are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. In the case of inclement weather, we cannot guarantee an available eating area inside. In such cases, groups may be asked to eat lunch on the bus.

Groups can order bagged lunches to be picked up at the café. Orders must be received five business days prior to the date of your visit. A credit card number is required to guarantee your order. College/University Student Groups

 

Degree or continuing education students with school ID may visit Grounds For Sculpture for $10 with or without advance reservations. Groups of 15 people or more and groups requesting a Guided Tour are required to book their visit in advance. 

Visits may be scheduled Tuesday through Sunday 10am – 6pm throughout the year. Grounds For Sculpture is open until 9pm seasonally, please check our Hours for details. 

Guided Tours
There are different ways for your group to experience Grounds For Sculpture. You may choose to self-guide or to explore the grounds through a Guided Tour. Guided Tours highlight select artworks on view and generally last one hour. Guided Tours are available for degree program and continuing education groups for an added fee of $75 per group of up to 15 people. Guided Tours must be booked in advance and are subject to availability. Guided Tour payment is due at the time of booking.

Lunch
Outside food is not permitted At Grounds For Sculpture. Prior arrangements for lunch can be made with The Peacock Café and Rat’s Restaurant located on-site. Items can also be purchased at the Van Gogh Café located in the Welcome Center of the Seward Johnson Center for the Arts. 

Peacock Café Bagged Lunches
Groups can order bagged lunches to be picked up at the Peacock Café. Orders must be received five business days prior to the date of your visit. A credit card number is required to guarantee your order. For information about bagged lunches and a sample menu, please contact the The Peacock Café via email at cafe@groundsforsculpture.org.

Adult Group Visits

 

Adult groups are encouraged to make reservations in advance. Groups of 15 or more may receive discounted admission, and private group tours can be arranged for a modest fee. Guides can accommodate a maximum of 15 participants per tour, and multiple guides can be arranged based on the size of your group.

Team Visits

Grounds For Sculpture is the perfect setting for a unique teambuilding experience for your group! We offer a variety of group art experiences to enrich your group’s visit, perfect for corporate teambuilding or groups looking for a memorable bonding experience. These art experiences are designed to promote creativity and teamwork, as participants work collaboratively and develop problem solving skills while having a fun hands-on art experience!

Accessibility

Accessible pathways run throughout the garden, and our Welcome Center and Domestic Arts Building are fully accessible. The ground floor of the Museum Building is also accessible.

Large print versions of select brochures are available. Assisted Listening Devices are also available for visitors with hearing impairments.

What should we do if we are running late?
If your group is running late, please call (609) 586-0616 and let us know your new estimated arrival time.  Groups more than 20 minutes late for Guided Tours may be asked to Self-Guide.

Where do we park?
Grounds For Sculpture has ample, free parking on a first-come, first-serve basis. If traveling by bus you will be directed to a designated parking area upon arrival.

Where do we check in?
When you arrive to Grounds For Sculpture please check in and pay any remaining balance at the information desk located in the Welcome Center of the Seward Johnson Center for the Arts. Once your group is checked in, you will receive wristbands for you and your students. Please make sure all students and chaperones wear their wristbands throughout your visit.

Where do we meet for our Guided Tour?
Guided Tours meet at the Welcome Center of the Seward Johnson Center for the Arts unless otherwise noted.

Can we explore Grounds For Sculpture after our Guided Tour?
Yes, we encourage groups to explore the grounds on their own after a Guided Tour. Chaperones must stay with students at all times when self-guiding throughout the gardens and exhibitions. 

Where are restrooms located?
Restrooms and water fountains are located in the Welcome Center, the Museum, and the Domestic Arts Building.

Are there maps available of Grounds For Sculpture?
Yes, site maps are available at The Welcome Center. 

Is there a way to find out what artwork is on view before my visit?
Please visit the On View and Exhibitions section of Grounds For Sculpture’s website to browse artworks on display at the time of your visit.
