Wellness Walks: Active Meditation

Walk the garden, explore health and well-being topics, and enjoy light fare with friends during this program for mature adults, sponsored by Janssen Pharmaceuticals and Stoneking Physical Therapy & Wellness Centers.

Join Saima Yousuf of Heart of Art Studio for an introduction to whirling meditation, an active form of meditation that centers the mind and body. The goal of whirling meditation is to reach the source of everything by breaking free from repetitive thoughts, and reconnecting to your heart center. If practiced regularly, whirling can change your outlook on life!  Even in tough, stressful situations, it allows you to find your calm center, and remain grounded. The low impact exercise of whirling will keep you fit and full of energy when done on a regular basis. This practice originated in Turkey, by the great Sufi poet, Rumi, in the 13th century, and continues to this day by the dervishes of the Mevlevi order as a workshop ceremony.  Together we will practice a basic whirling meditation, adapted for beginners and seniors by using a simpler and slower pace.   For more information on Samia Yousuf, please visit
