Plein Air Cinema Series: Loving Vincent

Since the dawn of moving pictures, adults and children alike have enjoyed the infinite possibilities animated films can provide in telling a story. This summer, GFS brings you four unique cinematic experiences, each of which uses true craftsmanship, transcending the realms of art and of animation to ignite your imagination.

In a unique technique of oil painted animation, Loving Vincent brings the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh to life. The film tells the remarkable story of a young man who travels to Van Gogh’s last hometown to deliver the troubled artist's final letter and ends up investigating his final days. Each of the 65,000 film frames are an oil painting, hand-painted by 125 professional painters. The final effect blends Van Gogh’s famous portraits, real-life actors, and talented artists, in a single act of unforgettable cinema.
