Film for Thought: A LEGO BRICKUMENTARY

This popular winter program features specially curated selections inspired by themes explored in our current season of exhibitions. The three-installment series of documentary films offers a thought-provoking look at life’s spiritual and natural interconnectedness, challenges to the accepted roles of women in male-dominated fields, and the infinite and unexpected creative possibilities in simple objects. We encourage attendees to arrive early to explore the exhibitions during a period of quiet viewing.  Following the film, share your thoughts during an informal discussion led by experienced guest moderators.

Lego is much more than what meets the eye, and A Lego Brickumentary celebrates this familiar brand’s many-faceted uses, meanings, and purposes. As the film’s directors travel the planet to collect evidence of Lego’s global reach and witness the immense place it occupies in our collective imagination, we are reminded of the innate human impulse to build, create, and express. Selected for its connections to both the Michael Rees and James Carl exhibitions, this film reinforces how simple objects and materials can hold infinite possibilities.
