Tour Grounds For Sculpture and discover art and nature at play!

Many guests choose to discover the wonders of GFS on their own using our map and exhibition brochure for a self-guided tour. These materials, as well as informational support, are available in the Welcome Center.

Another option is a docent-led tour. These tours are available to groups and individual guests daily, weather permitting. Well-trained in art techniques and communication skills, GFS docents also receive continuing education on the gardens, new exhibitions and artist techniques. This training has prepared them to lead engaging tours for guests. GFS docents provided over 1300 tours in 2016!

To confirm availability of our free Walk-In Tours, guests should call (609) 586-0616 on the day of their visit. Please note: GFS is closed on Mondays - except for certain holidays.

Walk-In Tour size is limited and filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.  All tours are subject to cancellation without notice due to inclement weather or docent availability.

Docent Tours

Outdoor Walk-In Tours are sculpture-centered tours of our 42-acres. These tours are regularly scheduled at 11:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 1:30 PM & 2:30 PM, based on docent availability. Other times may be available on busy days. Guests should sign up for these 45-60 minute tours in the Welcome Center at the INFO Desk on arrival. Each docent creates their own tour, so every tour is unique. These tours follows different routes and feature 12-20 sculptures selected by the docent. Guests can take multiple tours and have an amazing experience each time.

Indoor Walk-In Tours are available in each of the buildings: Seward Johnson Center for the Arts, Museum Building & Domestic Arts Building. Guests should sign up to participate in these tours in the corresponding building. These 30-minute tours are offered mid-day based on docent availability.

HortiSculpture Tours offer insight into the relationship between the art and landscape of GFS. Over the course of 75 minutes, docents provide information on the science of individual plants while guiding participants’ exploration of select works on view.  These tours are available every Wednesday, Friday & Saturday at 10:30 AM through October.  Guests should sign up in the Welcome Center at the INFO Desk to participate. Tour size is limited to maximize the guest experience.

Touch Tours can be requested for groups with visual impairments. These tours feature a variety of outdoor sculptures that can be explored tactically with care while the work is described by a volunteer docent who has been trained in Touch Tour methodology. For more information or to arrange a Touch Tour, please contact the Tour Coordinator at (609) 249-0200.

Accessibility Option

Access Mobile Tours are available without additional cost for people with mobility challenges. The cart is wheelchair accessible and driven by a docent who provides a one-hour guided tour of the main loop path. It is not a hop on/off tour.  Due to limited capacity, reservations are highly recommended, especially during the warmer months.
