'Seven Prisms'

Samuel Ogden, Jr.

1975 - metal: steel, mild

Font Size: AAA

'Seven Prisms' by Samuel Ogden is a monochromatic abstract work based upon a single geometric shape. The title refers to the multiple of prism forms made from cut and welded steel plate that are balanced in a spiraling linear composition, which moves through space and reaches upwards. All sharing the same dimensions, the prisms are welded to each other in a zig-zag formation that echoes their angles, directly relating the sculpture to the negative space surrounding it. The dynamics between these angles continuously alter as one circles the work. This changing pattern, along with the sculpture’s proportions and scale, imbue the steel piece with a forceful, yet restrained energy.
