'Maus'

William King

1993 - steel, stainless

Font Size: AAA

King was a young artist when realism was waning, and Abstract Expressionism was becoming the prevailing art movement. Instead of working in this mode, he chose to remain a figurative sculptor and has been carving, casting or fabricating works throughout his lengthy and productive career. The three figures, 'Maus', 'Maybe', and 'Snack', all executed in thin metal sheets, appear to be absorbed in conversation, posed and gesturing as if discussing the works on view at an opening. The light weight of the medium allows the figures to move when breezes pass by, animating the characters even more.
