Toni Putnam studied at the University of Rochester, l’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Foutainbleu, France and the Atlanta School of Art. In 1971, Putnam co-founded Tallix, Inc. an art foundry in Beacon, New York, and she remained a principal there for fourteen years. During this time she explored and refined the innovative welding techniques for sheet copper that have now become her trademark. The artist has acquired a great amount of experience in patinization processes and is often invited to lecture on the subject.

Sculptures by Putnam have been exhibited in one-person shows at galleries in New York City and at Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, NY; and in group shows at Chesterwood in Massachusetts; the National Sculpture Society, NY; the University of Alabama, Birmingham; The Palazzo Mediceo in Tuscany, Italy; and many art centers and galleries in the New England area. Sacred Grove was previously on view for a year at riverfront Green Park in Peekskill, NY.
