Andrzej Pitynski was born in Ulanów, Poland in 1947. After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Poland, Pitynski emigrated to the United States in the mid-1970s. He was employed by The Seward Johnson Atelier as Supervisor of the Modeling, Enlarging, and Mold Making departments for forty years.

The struggle for freedom that permeates much of his work has it’s origins in both the personal and national struggles that he witnessed.  Pitynski’s parents were partisans, as were other relatives who fought and sacrificed for their country’s freedom. While growing up, he and his family personally experienced persecution during Communist rule in post-war Poland. Pitynski was a devoted advocate in support of Poland’s quest for justice and democracy. In recognition of his commendable devotion and talents, he  received many honors, including in 1996 the ‘Commander Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland’.
